Think Local, Act Local
I’m convinced that more of our focus needs to be at the local level. The backbone of America does not start in Washington D.C. It exists in every community, small and large, throughout our country.
And its strength comes from each individual waking up everyday with a mindset to do something. Something that hopefully contributes positively to the local community whether it's through work, education, volunteering or art. Large and small things. That is what makes America great and is what has always made us great.
I’m not glossing over the current political environment and the craziness that is the Trump administration. I mean, I've spent twenty years of my life focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and President Trump calls climate science a hoax. There is plenty to be outraged about.
But it is the layers of local efforts that create value in our lives.
Right now, Northwest Arkansas cities have several vacancies on various City boards that need to be filled with volunteers. There are seemingly infinite ways to engage locally and make a real difference. It starts with thinking about the incremental impact you can have to make your community great.
That philosophy is also part of why I’m running for City Council in the November 3 election.
Major updates to the city’s long-range plan and development rules are happening soon. These decisions will shape housing, infrastructure, and the environment for years to come.
I want to put my experience to work helping our community plan thoughtfully for what comes next, so we can preserve what makes our city special.
Early Voting starts Monday, October 19.
Election Day is Tuesday, November 3.
