Quality of Life
How do we preserve the quality of life that makes Fayetteville such a great place to live?
Northwest Arkansas is experiencing rapid population change, adding about 30 new people every day.
This is expected to continue well into the future, largely because of the employment opportunities here, low cost of living, great schools, and access to a plethora of amenities.
With population changes come tremendous opportunities, challenges and responsibility.
How do we absorb this while maintaining the quality of life that makes it so great in the first place?
I was a founding member of the Urban Land Institute’s Northwest Arkansas chapter in 2016, and worked with a small team that was awarded a grant to plan the revitalization of College Avenue.
The ULI’s mission is to provide leadership in the responsible use of land and in creating sustaining, thriving communities worldwide.
That experience reinforced something I’ve believed for a long time: we have an incredible opportunity to learn from the successes and failures of cities that came before us.
Thriving communities have diverse employment, people, transportation options, amenities, and housing options.
This diversity creates resilience through the ebbs and flows of history, helping maintain a high quality of life and maximizing economic potential.
Providing transportation options (walking, biking, bus, and auto), along with continued investment in our downtowns, are some of the most critical and immediate steps we can take to retain and enhance the quality of life we have.
These are the kinds of long-term decisions the next City Council will face.
I’m running because I want to put my experience in city government, sustainability, engineering and organizations like ULI to work helping Fayetteville plan thoughtfully for what comes next.
I hope to earn your vote for Fayetteville City Council, Ward 2.
